My brother can attest that I loved ABBA pretty much since I was ten. I used to blare Gimme!Gimme!Gimme! and dance my butt off in high school. That’s how I spent a lot of Friday nights, because I still claim that a night of Loud ABBA is a better cure for Life than just about anything else.
I hadn’t watched the movie because I knew I had to see it without my ABBA hating husband.
I watched it today and it is definitely the film equivalent of cotton candy, pop rocks and fresh squeezed lemonade.
Now you’re just being confusing.
I have no idea if your statement means you enjoyed the movie or not, but personally I thought it was a movie that was likely much more enjoyable to create than it was to watch.
I know, I don’t know if I enjoyed it or not.
That’s probably why I was vague.
It was very pretty to look at in parts, but I think you hit the nail on the head, Dolphin. I felt like I was watching other people have a lot of fun but I never quite got there myself. Any fun I had was through the music itself.
But I think I would have had more fun just listening to ABBA and dancing around in my living room.
You are so right, Kat!
1. Pierce Brosnan CANNOT sing.
2. Who wants to watch Colin Firth portray a gay man? Seriously. No.
3. Ya know… ABBA sings its own songs the best.
On the plus side…
1. It did seem like a fun movie to make.
2. Greece is gorgeous! O my word!
3. It was good to see Dominic Cooper in a good guy role. (I’m still not sure I liked him as Willoughby.)
4. Stellan Skarsgard as something other than Bootstrap Bill… pretty interesting.
5. Christine Baranski is a hoot.
6. Meryl Streep has cahones for taking the risk of looking like a complete idiot.
7. The lighting in the church scene is magical.
8. At least the director (or DoP?) didn’t futz up the camera angles/shots in this film version of a Broadway musical. *cough* Phantom of the Opera *cough cough*
9. Julie Walters, you GO, girl!!!
