"Read, read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it.
Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window."

Today I was thinking of the Zevon line,
And your face looked like something death brought with him in his suitcase.
The live version of that song on Learning To Flinch is probably in my top favourite 10 songs of all time anywhere by anyone.
I am so not cut out for workin’.
Ah, Roland. I remember Zevon singing that on Lettermen just before he died.
Errr, that would be LettermAn.
Just happened to be listening to “Learning to Flinch” this evening. Best. French Inhaler. Ever. Pretty good Roland, too. (“…in Palestine and BerkeleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeY.”)
Still kinda hard to hear “Indifference of Heaven”, even after all this time.
