I was gonna write a long blog post about the top books I read this year.
Then I was gonna write a short post about how much I hate the abomination that is Stargate Universe.
Then I decided that I was going to install my new copy of Civ V. And that means that I’ll most likely just vanish off the face of the earth, never to be seen or heard from again. Generations from now the archaelogists will uncover my bones, still bent in a seated position, fingers curled as if gripping a mouse. They will speculate about the rituals of worship and sacrifice which led to my demise and interring. My bones will show that I died of starvation, dehydration and lack of Vitamin D. But they will never tell the whole story, the harrowing tale of obsessive love and fiery devotion that the soul once imprisoned in the calcified cage held for a strategy game.

Stargate Universe was an abomination, wasn’t it? I was a big fan of SG:1 and liked Atlantis, but Universe was icky.
Ah Civ V. haven’t gotten it yet, but Civilization has been my one video game that I love since the original came out on like 8 floppy disks.
Please don’t talk about this. I have spent forever resisting the lure of Civilization, because I know how vulnerable I am to precisely that particular kind of time-suck, and every time someone mentions it it gets a little tougher.
Give in nm.
I tend to find my Civilization urges ebb and flow. I can get VERY into it for awhile, then not even think about it for awhile.
I’m the same way anymore. I haven’t played in over a year. Honestly, now that they have complicated the gameplay so much it isn’t (to me) as conducive to relaxing play. Granted I got sidetracked and haven’t begun Civ 5 yet. But Civ IV felt too much like the Sisyphean learning curve to ever be out and out addictive. As far as I’m concerned, the zenith of turn-based gameplay is still Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire (SMAC/SMAX). They were deep enough to be compelling yet straightforward enough to encourage repetitive gameplay. Everything after that has been funky noise.

I’m curious as to why SGU was an abomination….I enjoyed the show and am sorry it’s been canceled.
