At the risk of turning my blog into “What Annoys Me About Green-Trendiness” this week, allow me to just say that this show, which premiers tomorrow, is already on my nerves. TLC seems to have some contract stipulation whereby they will air commercials for this program nineteen times an hour. The first few times I bedooped an ad for it, I thought it was some Scientology thing seeing as how I confused “Battleground Earth” with “Battlefield Earth”. Ground…field…what’s the difference. In both cases you’ve got a second-rate celebrity foisting their beliefs on you when all you’re trying to do is go about your normal life.
That brings me to my main point. TLC’s non-stop commercials for this happy festival of smug keeps referring to Tommy Lee and Ludacris as “Mega Stars”. Now, pardon me but when I think of Mega Stars I think of folks like John Wayne, Cary Grant, Barbra Striesand, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney. Washed-up mediocre rockers and rappers barely qualify as “stars” in my book and don’t even walk through the neighbourhood of Mega.

In fairness, ought that not to be “What Annoys Me About Television Advertising”? Because they do overhype everything, and everybody.
I TOTALLY agree. I’m really enjoying Greensburg, but the promos for this really make it look like a complete mockery of “going green” and a huge waste. But I’ll probably watch to confirm that impression because I’m a sucker like that.
