Knowing how I feel about The Wire and Deadwood, do any of you who have seen The Shield recommend that I get into it? It keeps making people’s top lists.
Speaking of Top Lists, there is no way on earth that Lost and Sex In The Cityare better TV shows than The Wire.
The fact that Survivor is also ranked ahead of, well, basically anything I watch is completely stupid.

How do you feel about Deadwood? I have access to the entire 3 year series and haven’t decided if I want to commit or not. I watched the first episode and while it was pretty good (no Firefly), the amount of profanity was staggering. I just don’t know if I want to bathe in that for 40+ hours (what with the whole “whatever is pure… think on these things”)
I started to type a long thing, and then remembered that I’d already basically said the same thing before.
I think Deadwood–at least the first two seasons–is some of the best television ever. It flagged a bit toward the end of the third season, but even that was better than 99.9% of other shows.
I’m given to understand that The Shield is remarkably violent. Hands-on and sometimes horrific sorts of violence, not (just) guns. So the person I know who raves about it told me I probably wouldn’t want to watch it. But I understand that the acting is just incredible, and it certainly has remarkable casting.
I’ve gotten that vibe about The Shield and Rescue Me.
I can handle a little violence if it serves a larger story purpose–like in Deadwood and The Wire. I can’t get behind it if it’s just there to be there, though.
Check out Carnivale. Intriguing story.
I’ve seen it and love it.
My pissedoffness with HBO sort of began when they didn’t let the story play all the way out.
