Interesting. I wonder if every county in the entire US is predominantly Christian or if only denominations of Christianity (if you include Mormonism in that) were counted.
Looks to me like they counted only Christians. Otherwise there would be some plurality Jewiswh counties outside of NYC, and a bunch of Native American belief counties here and there.
I was about to say the same thing, nm.
Still, it’s interesting to see how the different beliefs are distributed.
MI is so heavily Catholic because of a large Italian and Eastern Europe population. Heavy industry in the rust belt, unions etc…
Without even looking at the map, I bet northern Ohio is the same way.
Commenters… note the title of the map. This is about “plurality of churches,” not number of Christians or number of religious adherents. For that reason, entities not known as “churches” (i.e. synagogues, cults and atheist organizations) aren’t part of the map.
Ahh, I am a Lutheran awash in a sea of Baptists.
