I Am A Terrorist
May 10, 2007 by Katherine Coble
Ron Paul, Penn Jillette and I are all “Terrorists” according to the State of Alabama.
The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has recently constructed a website that defines Domestic Terrorists as those who oppose a strong federal government.
Funny, but I thought Domestic Terrorists were people who blew up stuff. I thought Libertarians were just people who wanted to be left alone.
Thanks, Casey, for letting me know.
UPDATE:
Apparently I am also a Godless heathen. Not to mention a big fan of rapists.
Libertarianism breaks down in the eyes of conservatives when the question is presented as to who has the greater right, the habitual rapist’s right to rape or the victim’s right to be free from rape? … Libertarianism doesn’t find much purpose with religion, as liberty and desire trump restraint and social conscience.
All in all not the best day for libertarians. I think perhaps we need to clarify our message.

Well, I must say, I am a terrorist too. That is just totally too thick a stroke of a description. It’s like trying to paint a fine line on a painting with a paintbrush. I guess they’re going to throw anyone and everyone that says the government is getting too big in prison, huh?
[...] Katherine Coble over at Just Another Pretty Farce has an article on domestic terrorism in Alabama - apparently anyone who is opposed to [...]
At first I thought it was a hoax. I mean, we’re talking ALABAMA here! There are some pretty strong collective memories of a string federal government marching through the state. I’ve never known someone from that state who was for a strong federal government. Then I saw this at the website in question:
ORIGINALLY PRODUCED BY THE PENNSYLVANIA
COMMISSION ON CRIME AND DELINQUENCY AND ADAPTED FOR ALABAMA BY THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY
I thinkk what we have here is a case of sloppy editing. It’ll be gone by the end of the week.
This is, after all, Alabama.
“… those who oppose a strong federal government.”
What, you mean like Thomas Jefferson? Wasn’t that the deal with the Democratic Republicans? Scoundrels like Jefferson and Madison, who were in favor of limiting the power of the federal government, and who opposed the Alien and Sedition Acts?
Well, I’d be proud to be counted with them, warts and all (theirs AND mine).
And, the devil? Somebody else’s rights to carry on stop right where my body begins, thanks. My person, my wallet, my property. Nobody else is entitled to them. Buncha Commies.
Although “the habitual rapist’s right to rape” is a specious concept. It’s not a right granted under any law of which I am aware, as opposed to the victim’s right to be free from rape. Good thing “desire” doesn’t trump “Colt.”
i don’t think i count as a libertarian (though i have leanings that way), but even i think that this statement is just about the most ignorant thing i’ve ever heard come out of the state government of alabama… and i grew up in that blighted state… there’s plenty of stupidity to go around in those parts.
i suppose i’m also a turr-ist, then. i’m gonna go blow up some aliens on my xbox now… oh, sorry… my “murder simulator” according to wacky jack thompson…
why won’t the conservatives leave me alone?! do you remember when the conservatives wanted the government OUT of our homes?! i can’t… but that musta been nice.

Surely we are all terrorrists in our own devious ways. Sure we want less laws and less government involvement in our affairs, but common sense allows us to supress these quite reasonable desires. They don’t go away though, the Government makes use of them when it sends us a letter that starts ‘Greetings from the President of the United States of America’. Thanks George, now I can be free, now I can kick ass and give expression to my inner self.

Now I didn’t call you a Godless heathen. Nor a fan of rapists.
I did, however, respond to your comment over at VOLCon. However, it is a bit deep for the weekends, and perhaps even Fridays. Forget that I mentioned it, and have a good weekend.
Cheers,
Rob
Remind me not to go on any airplanes with you. I don’t want to be associated with your kind when we go thru security!
Looks like Alabama pulled it down. That was quick. In case you missed it, the original Pennsylvanian version is still active. Notice the Gadsden flag featured prominently on this page describing domestic terrorists:

Congratulations! You have now been flagged by the FBI.
As if you weren’t already
Great post!
My my! The modern “anti-government movement” began in the 1990’s? That’s funny, I remember learning my libertarianism as a child in the 1970’s….and it certainly wasn’t new then.

As a Brit, I may have got my US politics wrong, but I thought Republicans were all for smaller government and leaving people to their business. Or was that just before 9/11?
