Leaky Cauldron has hi-res versions of all the Harry Potter & Deathly Hallows cover art.
(I’m very nervous about making Harry Potter posts now that Emma Watson changed her mind on me.)
I like all of the covers. As usual, I’m drawn to the stark and arty UK Adult version the most. One of these days I’ll collect all 7 volumes of the UK Adult versions in hardback, because I vastly prefer the look of them. And I hope to have that type of money to spend on books I’ve already read 45 times.
My brother should be happy. The U.S. Version is as orange as a Welcome to Florida brochure.

I have but one thought after reviewing those covers: Oh WHY am I hearing Jim Morrison muttering “break on through to the other side” on repeat in my head? WHY?
:0)
grandefille, I go back and forth as to whether or not they’re on the other side of the Veil for this one.
That does seem to be the obvious answer, what with the amphitheatre and all.
But it kind of ruins the mystique of The Veil for me when I think of it having tiebacks.
It just screams “Extreme Makeover: Department of Mysteries Edition”.
I am intrigued by the fact that neither Harry nor Lord Thingy appear to have wands, though.
I think the curtains are actually a throwback to the cover for Sorcerer’s Stone. It too had tieback curtains on either edge of the artwork.
A friend of mine compared pictures of the two (link below), and they’re remarkably similar, with the arches and Harry reaching up for something.

Good call!
You know what I’ve just realised?!
I’ve only ever read Sorcerer’s Stone in paperback, and have NEVER before now seen the full cover art from the dustjacket.
wow.
Both covers are reminiscent of the work of Jacques-Louis David who did multiple paintings of someone with a hand reaching up like that in classical type settings. (curtains, columns, et. al.) http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/david/brutus.jpg
